NHS Education for Scotland (NES) Project Case Study
The HAI Induction ProgrammeThe Introduction of mandatory induction training in healthcare workers in Scotland was one of the priorities outlined in the ministerial HAI Action Plan. To support this action a framework for mandatory Induction training in Healthcare associated Infections was developed intended to assist organisations and individuals to meet the requirements of the framework. Who is it for?The HAI Induction Programme has been developed for all clinical staff. This includes medical nursing and allied health professionals. The programme is also suitable for those wishing to update themselves on the principles of infection control and use as part of continued professional development. ContentWithin the framework of mandatory Induction Training in healthcare associated infection are explicit learning outcomes. The units within the programme were built to help to meet these learning outcomes and provide an assessment tool for staff undergoing the induction training. Challenges and Approach. The content of the course by its nature is quite dry but essential for staff. To engage the users the content was developed using illustrations and humour. Technically users were accessing the content on NHS computers many which did not have interactive media players installed. So interactivity could not rely on flash but on hand coding the graphics transitions. The registration and assessment tools were built in Moodle and we developed some add-ons to the core code for the project. The registration was also integrated into existing VLE's run by the NES in Scotland to allow seamless access to the content. Please click here to checkout more NHS Education Project Screenshots. |
